The incident occurred in Hilton Head, South Carolina, near a lagoon bordering a golf course in the Spanish Wells community.

The victim's name was Holly Jenkins, a 69-year-old woman who lived in the Spanish Wells community.

Jenkins was attacked and killed by a 10-foot male alligator while she was out walking her dog.

After the attack, an alligator crawled out of the water and was found guarding the victim's body at the edge of the lagoon, preventing immediate access for first responders.

The authorities eventually removed the alligator from the area.

This incident marked the second fatal alligator attack in Beaufort County within less than a year, according to the sheriff's office.

Jenkins' dog was found unharmed and in good health after the attack.

An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death, and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources was responding to the incident.
